Return to Play - Holly Turf

Action plan and protocol for Delta Lacrosse Association

This document has been produced with careful consideration towards the BC Lacrosse Association governing bodies’ Return to Lacrosse Guidelines. It is our intent to provide this information to our provincial governing body and municipal authorities as we await the BC Ministry of Health’s decision on the sport of Lacrosse.

It is also our intent that when the time does come for us to move forward with actions to return, we will ensure the following steps are taken with our organization and its’ members beforehand;

  • All protocol, regulations and requirements for return to play are published on our clubs’ website together with full mail-out to all members through email.
  • Mandatory Zoom meetings to present protocol to executive, volunteers, and coaches where all must attend if they are wishing to return to the Association under new circumstances.
  • Mandatory signed waivers from all members, volunteers, and coaches that wish to return, agreeing to abide by all regulations and new protocols for participation.

The Delta Lacrosse Association recognizes and abides by the Return to Sport guideline for BC (Click here) and the Return to Lacrosse guideline (Click here) released on June 11th, 2020 by Viasport British Columbia and the BC Lacrosse Association. This document is at this time being used to demonstrate Delta Lacrosse Association’s keenness to show that we are willing, ready and able to start the planning process for a safe and responsible return to Lacrosse.

ARRIVAL AT THE TURF

Players will be required to put on equipment in their vehicles in the parking lot of Holly Turf prior to entering the field. The 4 coaches will set up into quadrants in the four corners of the field.

There will be social distancing markers (small cones and/or chalk lines set by coach/volunteer) where Players will be required to line up prior to entering the field. There will be 40 markers (10 at each corner of the field) on the ground set at 2 metres apart, allowing one marker per player. (Maximum number of people allowed on the field, excluding facility workers will be 44:  40 players and 4 coaches; divided into 4 groups of 10 players and 1 coach).

The field will be divided into 4 quarters (A, B, C, and D in each corner of the field). Players will be advised prior to arrival as to which corner they are to line up at.

Players will pass through a check in point just outside the chain link fence of all four corners where they will verbally check-in for the session, have their temperature taken with a touchless scanner (operated by coaches/volunteers) and be given a numerical number to coordinate with their designated spot on the side lines of the field. Designated spots on the side lines of the field will be 2 metres apart and clearly marked for placement of player’s belongings. (Water bottles, emergency medications, tissues).

Parents must wait until their player has passes the check in point and has been give the clear before they can leave the vicinity of the field. Parents will not be permitted past the check in point. Parents are welcome to stay but are required to stay 2 metres apart at all times. Parents who choose not to follow this requirement will be asked to leave and wait in their vehicle. If parents choose to leave parents must leave a contact number where they can be reached during the time the player is on the field.

OPEN GATES

The gates to the field will remain open during all entries and exits of the players and coaches. All 4 gates will remain open at all times.

These open-gate measure will ensure that players and coaches contact with gate and gate handles is kept to a minimum throughout Delta Lacrosse’s time on the Holly Turf.

Players and Coaches are required to use hand sanitizer prior to entering the field. Players will keep social distancing measure as they walk through the gate and onto the field. Each coach will lead their group onto the field through their designated gates.

The gate doors will already be open to avoid players touching the door handles.

Players will have been assigned a number during the check-in process and then players 1-10 at gate A will find their numbered placings on the side line situated 2 metres apart from one another. Drills and Skills

  • The Drill and Skills and Challenge Activities appendices in this document have been created as recommendations to assist coaches with participants of varying development stages and age appropriateness (i.e., APPENDIX G: Drills and Skills - 12 YEARS AND UNDER (up to Pee Wee age); APPENDIX H: Drills and Skills - OVER 12 YEARS and APPENDIX I: Challenge Activities - OVER 12 YEARS (Pee Wee age and older).
  • Safety of participants in all drills/skills must maintain the 2-meter physical distancing of participants at all times. The 2-meter physical distancing of participants must be considered all times including waiting in lines, waiting for instruction and when moving within drills.
  • Coaches can adapt and design drills/skills as long as they adhere to 2-meter physical distancing at all times.
  • Any drills/skills that cannot adhere to 2-meter physical distancing must not be performed.
  • Drills/skills are designed to build and enhance individual athlete skill development without competing in game situations (i.e., games, scrimmages) that could result in contact. No competition, including scrimmages, is allowed at this time.
  • No stick to stick, stick to body or body to body contact is permitted.
  • Participants must focus on the coaches and their instructions when waiting to perform drills and not fool around in lines.
  • Goals should be used as targets without designated goaltenders.
  • Goaltenders will take part in activities with all drills/skills with participants.
  • Station work is recommended to assist coaches to offer drills/skills activity flow and variety to maintain the 2-meter physical distancing.
  • Coaches must be cognizant that older, and higher-skilled athletes may be more active and utilize more space when undertaking lacrosse activities so you may need to adjust the number of people allowed in the activity area.
